"I didn't seek out Pilates. It found me.
While working as a massage therapist at a chiropractor's office, I was given a new massage client who happened to be a dancer. He was also a student of Pilates Technique Certification and was looking for bodies to practice his teaching skills. He asked me to volunteer and I initially declined. I had no idea what Pilates was and didn't have any friends who did it.
He asked a few more times and I decided to give it a try. I'll never forget my first session.
I was told that all movement comes from the Powerhouse. I was told that I should be inhaling on exertion. I was told that I needed to strengthen my achy back. I was told that my flexibility was below average.
I completed my first session and I remember walking home and having a feeling that my life had just changed! The ground that I was walking on, felt different. My achy back felt looser. I had awareness of my posture while simply walking.
6 months later, I enrolled in Jill Cassady's training program and was on my way to changing my career. I'm still a massage therapist, but I'm also a Pilates Instructor with a very busy practice.
I've worked alongside some of the biggest names in the Pilates world. And I love taking workshops and continuing education classes. The learning never ends.
